Badger and Vole in the Burnt Mound
Dip pen and ink drawing on A4 watercolour paper.
Badger and Vole enjoy a flask of tea inside the Burnt Mound, a reconstruction of a Stone Age building on Sanday in Orkney. The building, some 3,000 years old, was moved from its vulnerable coastal position inland where it now sits next to the Sanday Heritage Centre. Theories vary as to the original purpose of the burnt mounds, where a pool of water was heated by hot rocks, but nowadays, it's not the best place for a sauna, but it's a lovely shelter from the wind when you're in need of a cup of tea.
