The Devil's Kirk
Dip pen and ink drawing on A4 watercolour paper.
There's an abandoned kirk on Sanday, one of the Orkney Islands, which now has no roof and hosts a congregation of nettles. At the top of a staircase entrance to the kirk, a stone bears deep marks - supposedly the claw marks of the devil.
This drawing shows one of the buildings in the graveyard, open to the sky and alive with plants and lichen. The graveyard is still being used for new burials.
